Project Phoenix
Class Description
Project Phoenix is a program we developed specifically for those fighting Class II and Class III morbid obesity. This is a FREE program to those who qualify! Each member must present a doctor’s referral and approval for exercise before beginning. This class is limited to 8 qualifying members. This program is more than just exercise! In Project Phoenix, we delve deeply into changing our habits, our mindsets, and our movement!
Our Project Phoenix classes include various forms of movement: cardio, functional training, water exercise, resistance training, and walking. It is a simple truth that a bigger battle requires consistent training and lots of support! Project Phoenix will also include nutritional counseling and food tracking, a Facebook accountability group, weight check-ins, and a Phoenix message pod for community and connection. The Kishwaukee Family YMCA is also looking forward to partnering with specialists and educators in our community to help with our education and to help change the lives of our members who are battling morbid obesity.

NEUROTHRIVE Functional Training
Class Description
Exercise is a powerful tool for managing and improving neurological disorders. It stimulates the production of Brain-Derived Neurotrophic Factor (BDNF) to promote neuroplasticity, reduces neuroinflammation, and supports dopamine signaling. Tailored regimens help maintain mobility, cognitive function, and independence. This new & specialized program is designed for individuals living with neurological disorders such as Parkinson’s disease, Multiple Sclerosis (MS), stroke, traumatic brain injury, neuropathy, and other conditions affecting the nervous system. Our NeuroThrive program focuses on improving mobility, balance, coordination, strength, flexibility, and overall functional independence in a safe, supportive, and encouraging environment. Through guided exercises, participants engage in activities specifically adapted to their individual abilities and needs. Classes may include balance training, gentle strength and resistance exercises, flexibility work, coordination drills, posture improvement, gait training, and cognitive movement activities that promote neuroplasticity and enhance quality of life. Led by a qualified instructor with experience in neurological rehabilitation and adaptive exercise, the class emphasizes safety, confidence-building, and social connection. Participants are encouraged to work at their own pace while progressing toward personal goals, whether improving daily function, reducing fall risk, maintaining independence, or enhancing overall well-being. This inclusive program welcomes individuals of varying mobility levels and provides modifications to ensure each participant can participate comfortably and successfully. The goal is to empower individuals to move with greater confidence, improve physical function, and support long-term health and wellness.
*Neurological Disorder/Diagnosis and Doctor Clearance to participate are requried.
