In an effort to reduce the community spread of the Coronavirus (COVID-19) and upon the recommendation of local health agencies and the YMCA National Office, the Kishwaukee Family YMCA will close our facility effective Wednesday, March 18 with a tentative reopen date of April 8.
The safety of our members, program participants, community members and staff are of the utmost importance to us at the YMCA. The Kishwaukee Family YMCA is one of the largest public gathering places in our community. The YMCA promotes social responsibility as one of our core values and as a result we are faced with making decisions in the best interest of our members and the community we serve.
We take the importance of maintaining an environment that minimizes the spread of infectious disease very seriously.
“The safety of our members, program participants, community members and staff is of the utmost importance to us at the YMCA,” stated Mark Spiegelhoff, CEO of the Kishwaukee Family YMCA. “We promote social responsibility as one of our core focus areas and we must make decisions that keep our community safe. The YMCA is one of the largest public gathering places in the community. We must keep our residents safe and prevent the potential spread of the Coronavirus. The decision was not made lightly due to the large cross section of the community
we serve. But we know it is the right decision in light of crisis we are facing as a community, a region and as a nation.”
